Our Story

Thunderstorm and Icecream! Those were the main ingredients of our first date together. Those elements also do a fine job summing up the peculiar blend of excitement, adventure and sweetness that makes up the Heather and Ronnie team.

It was a warm spring day in Northern Virginia in 2007. I met Heather just a month or two before at church and had finally worked up the nerve to ask her on a date. I arranged for us to take the subway to nearby Washington D.C. for a walking tour of sites by the White House. We had just passed by a home where John Wilkes Booth stayed while plotting to assassinate President Lincoln when thunder started crashing all around. Soon rain was pouring down on us. Lightening streaked across the sky. We ran back towards the subway station to seek cover. We made it but were both soaked. I did not want the night with Heather to end, though, so I stuck to my original plan for the end of the date: icecream! I guess I was a little clueless about how cold a girl can get when eating icecream while soaking wet. She was nice though and finished the icecream with her pretty blue lips. And, fortunately, the fun continued.

Just over a year later, on July 18, 2008, we were married here--

We were excited to start growing our family shortly after our wedding, and we thought we were on track, but after some disappointing challenges and numerous fertility treatments, we felt to open our arms and hearts wider to the possibility of adoption.

In August 2013, we were blessed to adopt our first son, Leo! He brings such joy and spunk into our lives!
